In light of the Cho shootings, my mind has been constantly adrift on the possible impact this event has on Asians. I feel for those who are in the US because they are possible targets for aminosity of any kind. In most cases, westerners cannot tell apart a korean, japanese and a chinese. So pretty much the yellow-skinned, black eyed and distinctly chinese (or in this case, korean) looking person is a target. I guess this is not to say that ALL americans would be against them but the racial prejudice still does exsist.
I can think of many reasons for the westerners to hate us
1)Basically most of the big attacks on the US were caused by Asians. E.g Sept 11 bombings, Cho guy.
2)The beheading of westerners are done by our Asian counterparts in the middle east.
3)Westerners are also losing jobs due to cheaper production costs in Asia. How many times in econs do we have that example of American steel workers losing jobs as a result of the transfer of production into china.
4)American industries are facing competition from Asian industries. Hello toyota.
5)The 'white superiority' belief still exists. They dont like others impeding on their territory either. This brings me back to cambridge last year where one other student from another JC faced racial discrimination when someone drove passed asking him/her to go back to his "fucking country"
Yet, i feel us asians have a lot to learn from our western counterparts.
Especially in their advertising. This probably explains why the american advertising industy is worth billions, hundreds of them. I think their most ingenius fomula is the "Terms and conditions" product. Usually a campaign will boast something like "money-back guarantee!" "10000 year warranty". Naturally one would be all-assuming and believe what they say WITHOUT READING THE FINE PRINT. Haha, no wonder there are so many lawsuits against insurance companies. One guy is suing some insurance firm because they refused to pay him for his stolen watch because he wasnt wearing it.
My favourite american advertisement today would be:

Ah. Low fat butter.
